Pickle Addictions Part 2

A colourful series of 6 images inspired by 1970’s cook book photography to further explore salt addictions caused by Addison’s Disease, a rare autoimmune condition affecting only 1 in 10,000. It prevents the body producing the essential hormones cortisone (which helps deal with physical and mental stress) and aldosterone (which helps regulate blood pressure and sodium levels). Many sufferers crave salty food as their bodies don’t absorb sodium.

This photo series shows how I view pickled food, based on typical sweet foods. I wanted to look at my relationship with salty foods and pickles and how these cravings can compare with people with a sweet tooth. With my love of vintage food photography, this inspired the lurid colours, sets and styling of the series. These images, along with my first Pickle Addictions series, were produced to help raise awareness for Addison’s disease - a condition so rare, it is often undiagnosed and can be fatal if not treated.

* PICKLE ADDICTIONS *

A series of images exploring my pickle addiction caused by a rare condition called Addison’s Disease which I was diagnosed with in the Summer of 2019.

This series shows how I view pickled food, based on typical sweet foods. I wanted to look at my relationship with salty foods and pickles and how these cravings can compare with people with a sweet tooth. I also wanted to do this photoshoot to help raise awareness for Addison’s disease as it is so rare that it is often missed and can be fatal if not diagnosed.
